AP English Language

Course Description

This course teaches students to strengthen their composing abilities through close reading and frequent writing. Students identify an author’s purpose and strategies and develop questions at the factual, inferential and analytical levels. A variety of nonfiction and visual texts provide the focus for writing compositions of various lengths and complexity, including timed writing. Students regularly engage in peer response as well as revision based on teacher feedback.

All students who take the class are expected to complete both semesters and take the Advanced Placement Exam in May. Those who pass with a score of 3, 4, or 5 are exempt from beginning English composition class at most colleges and universities.
