Mathematics Teacher - Teaching Career Academy

Hello and Welcome!

 

I am Ms Christian, one of the Mathematic teachers in the Teaching Career Academy at Hollywood High School where I teach Algebra 1, Geometry, and Transition to College Mathematics and Statistics.  This is my third year teaching at HHS.

A bit about myself - I completed my Bachelor's Degree at Northwestern University and a Master's in Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.  Thereafter, I worked for 5 years as a Research and Data Analyst for the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families.  While I liked my job, I preferred my volunteer time as a middle school math tutor and decided on a career change.  I enrolled in UCLA's Master's in Education Program with a focus on Secondary Mathematics and now truly enjoy all aspects of my career.  I focus on fostering positive students' mathematical identities in my classes through growth mindset activities and real work applications.  Check out my teaching portfolio on my website: www.laurateachesmath.weebly.com 

In my free time I enjoy hiking, baking, reading, and skiing.
